“Going viral”

How many two-word phrases cause such excitement, curiosity, and interest?

Here’s a web definition: Viral phenomena are objects or patterns able to replicate themselves or convert other objects into copies of themselves when these objects are exposed to them. Viral has become a common way to describe how thoughts, information and trends move into and through a human population.

Like so many terms related to the World Wide Web, its usage in our modern lexicon has in-and-of-itself become viral. It is used to describe everything from stock market activity to YouTube video hits.

From what I see, there are no rules or boundaries as to when, where, what or if something goes viral.

Here at Spitfire Management we have our own “use model” for this ubiquitous term. We define our clients as going viral when they take the step to expand project collaboration beyond the company infrastructure and involve all project stakeholders and partners by providing access to their Spitfire Project Management System.
