Clients Are People Too!

Even though my main job is documentation, I help out Support as I can under the general umbrella of “client services.”  I get familiar with the names of some of our clients.  I also train clients through modern means of technology.  That is to say, I am here and they are there and so I don’t get to see them, but I can talk to them and get to know them by name. How much better it is, then, when I have opportunity to actually meet and interact with these clients.

I have personally met a number of them through past user conferences and this year I also met some clients through on-site visits. And I have found them to be, on the whole, interesting, nice, hard working and sometimes funny people.  I am glad that we are here to help answer their questions, listen to their suggestions, and fix problems that pop up.

And to learn.  Through much communication, our clients teach us new ways to use sfPMS and point out what works well and what needs improvement.  Most of the enhancements Development makes to the software come from our understanding of our clients.  And that is an understanding that is the result of time getting to know them.

So I consider “getting to know our clients” a high priority.  I like that, over time, we develop real relationships with them.  So as this year draws to a close, I want to wish Happy Holidays and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all our clients, especially those I’ve talked to and met personally.
